MAS Intimates Kenya

Two weeks ago, IHRM Kenya delegation visited MAS Intimates Kenya, expecting a three-hour courtesy visit. Six hours later, we left with a renewed perspective on what industrialization can achieve when people remain at the centre of business.
Kenya Vision 2030 identifies manufacturing, particularly the textile and apparel sector, as a key driver of economic growth. Yet Export Processing Zones are often associated with poor labour practices. MAS Intimates Kenya is challenging that perception.
Since opening its Athi River facility in 2020 with just 50 employees, the company has grown to 3,872 employees, exports approximately 70% of its production to global brands and has become a strong example of responsible, people-centred manufacturing in Kenya.

The visit demonstrated how MAS is contributing to the economy by creating quality jobs, investing in employee wellbeing, partnering with TVET institutions and universities to build future talent, promoting inclusive leadership, and strengthening sustainable manufacturing practices. Through its Joint Consultative Committee, employees are actively involved in workplace dialogue, reinforcing a culture of accountability and inclusion.

The visit also highlighted opportunities for greater collaboration between industry and policymakers to increase local sourcing, align technical training with industry needs, and strengthen Kenya's manufacturing ecosystem.
Adding to its impressive track record, MAS Intimates Kenya has previously been recognised for HR excellence with the following awards:

Best HR Transformative Strategy, Best ESG Initiative, Best Talent Management Strategy

MAS Intimates Kenya demonstrates that manufacturing excellence and a people first culture are not competing priorities. Together, they are driving the future of Kenya's industrial transformation and bringing the aspirations of Vision 2030 closer to reality.
